Lunar New Year Gift Guide

The Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, has more than 4,000 years of history. It is one of the most important of the traditional Chinese festivals . It is also the time for extended families to get together, similar to the tradition of western Christmas Day. The colorful Spring Festival began during the Shang Dynasty (about 17th – 11th century BC), and celebrates family reunion and signals the advent of spring and the start of a new year. People from different regions and different ethnic groups celebrate in their unique ways.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the sheep is one of the most beloved animals thanks to its gentle and calm nature. Since ancient times, people have learned to use its fleece to make writing brushes and skin to keep warm. Because of it’s white color, it is considered a delicate and precious animal.

And the elves at Elfster know there is always a reason to celebrate good fortune with the ones you love. Members of the Hong Kong Students Association at Brown University are hosting a gift exchange to ring in the Lunar New Year and Elfster is lucky to be a part of it! Remember, Elfster isn’t just for Secret Santa gift exchanges- use the site all year to connect with friends, make wishlists and be inspired by great gift ideas.
