How to Make a Wish List for a Baby Shower Online

Knowing how to make a wish list for a baby shower will make the celebration much easier.

Recently, my friend, Krista, asked me to throw a baby shower. When I told this to my husband, he smiled delightedly. See, I’ve been to a bunch of them, but I’ve also been to a lot of plays and I can’t act to save my life. So, throwing a baby shower made me kind of nervous. But it was something I wanted to do.

Of course, I wanted to get it right. I wanted to be able to contact her friends and family who didn’t live here in Chicago. And I wanted to make sure she got what she and Matt needed for their new baby.

The best way I found to do that was to make a wish list for a baby shower online. It was much easier for everyone and it helped ensure that they got what they needed. The best part was that we were able to bring her loved ones closer together.

How to Make a Virtual Wish List for a Baby Shower

For Krista’s baby shower, I used an online gift generator, the same one we use for Secret Santa. It’s the same concept, except it isn’t such a secret and everyone is Santa for one person.

When you make a wish list online, the parents-to-be can create a list of items they want. They can choose from multiple stores, allowing them to easily include items from all kinds of retailers.

Here are a few tips for using the right online gift guide.

  1. Make sure you can make a wish list from multiple sites.
  2. Pick one with a filtering system so you can look up a baby gift guide.
  3. Find one that allows people to shop directly from the list with one click, instead of having to look up the item and go to the store.
  4. Make sure your system allows you to mark the item as purchased.
  5. Have a program that allows you to ship anywhere.
  6. Keep the purchaser anonymous so the recipient still has a surprise.
  7. Have fun!

One of the cool things about this is that the parents-to-be can use the filters to find just the right items they need. They can even select a gift theme if they want.

The Benefits of an Online Wish List

Using an online wish list is super easy. Like, easy enough that it was impossible for me to mess it up. But a baby shower isn’t just about the absence of trouble; it’s about the presence of family and friends.

Well, Krista and Matt have a lot of family and friends beside us, but they’re almost all in Northern Michigan and only a few could make it. But they could all be there in spirit.

By inviting them onto the online wish list, they could buy presents for the new baby and send their well wishes. We even took the virtual theme a little further. We set up a big screen, used a video chatting service, and patched everyone in.

Except for not being able to eat my fabulous deviled eggs, they were there. They were there for the ice-breaker games. They were there to tell stories of Krista’s past… and hear stories about her present. And they were there when we exchanged gifts.

We were all using the same system, so there was no division. It brought everyone together. This might not be the traditional way to run a baby shower, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about wanting everyone to be happy. When asking why and how to make a wish list for a baby shower online, the question answers itself: because doing so makes that bundle of joy even more joyful.
